GlassFish is Sun’s effort to provide an Open Source high-quality application server. The recent version 2 of the product has proven that an open source product can compete on every level with the commercial offerings. Version 3 is work in progress and is targeted at providing a light, fast, and modular (OSGi-based) application server suitable for Java and scripting (JRubyOnRails, Groovy/Grails, etc…) development and deployments. Both versions 2 and 3 will be demonstrated. Alexis will also briefly cover Java EE 5 as a key evolution of server-side Java technology and introduce Java EE 6 themes and main APIs.
Finally, Alexis will be happy to discuss other technical questions related to Java, or software in general from Sun.
Alexis is a technical ambassador for the GlassFish open source community. He’s an editor for TheAquarium, and the translator (into French) of books such as Josh Bloch’s “Effective Java”. Alexis is based in Paris, France.
